of the seam. There are two types of sewing machines

Domestic sewing machines
Either
a straight-stitch or a zigzag sewing is possible with domestic machines. In straight
stitching, the needle moves up and down, producing a straight line of stitches;
in zigzag stitching, the needle moves up and down and side to side, resulting
in a zigzag line of stitching. |
Industrial sewing machines
High-speed,
Power-driven, highly specialized machines for industrial use include buttonholing
and button sewing, seam finishing, and embroidery. Shoes, gloves, hats, books,
upholstery, hosiery, tents, awnings, flags, and sails are sewn on specially devised
machines.
